A  Salute  to  Old  Glory

Iwo Jima
Touching the "Stars" by  Bob Beskar  2-28-03

As sunset approaches this land of ours,
it's time to bring in the "Stripes" and "Stars".
She's flown proudly throughout the day,
a symbol of freedom; I'm here to say!
And looking up from where I stand,
I slowly lower her, down to my hand.
Thoughts come to mind, upon descent,
of what she is, and always meant!
I feel the softness, as I touch,
and think of those, that gave so much!
I carry her with deep respect,
and tend to her without neglect.
I fold her like I was once taught,
and place her in a special spot.
She'll stay the night inside of here,
but come tomorrow, she'll reappear!
Her colors will shine for all to see,
and she'll wave for us and liberty!
And as I turn and walk away,
I feel somehow she made my day!

This is Always Faithful
